Alan Turing Centenary Arts and Culture

Intuition and Ingenuity Exhibition   Turing Centenary Day Celebrations/Dorkboat   Arts and Culture Subcommittee   New Commissions   About Alan Turing   Buy the Catalogue   Symposium: The Future of Art and Computing

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of mathematician Alan Turing, we have curated a touring exhibition of artworks created by pioneers of digital art alongside contemporary emerging artists whose work has been strongly influenced by Turing's life and ideas. The exhibition is primarily funded by Arts Council England, with additional support from the Computer Arts Society and The University of Hertfordshire. The exhibition is curated by Anna Dumitriu, Sue Gollifer and Nick Lambert. Explore the links above to find out more about the exhibition and Alan Turing.
Today, 23rd June 2012, is Turing Centenary Day! We will be celebrating by cruising up the Thames in the Dorkboat in Turing themed fancy dress, with talks by ‘people doing strange things with electricity’ and by Anna Dumitriu (Turing Centenary Arts and Culture Subcommittee co-chair) to Watermans Gallery near Kew where there will be performances, including our specially commissioned sound portrait of Alan Turing by Martin A Smith accompanied by a VJ performance by Alex May. We will also be consuming probably the best cake you will ever see (Turing themed of course) - but it’s top secret check for the hashtag #TuringCake later today to see it’s unveiling!
